“To those who stay put, the world is but an imaginary place. But to the movers, the makers, and the shakers, the world is all around them, an endless invitation.”
Traveling is good for the soul. There’s nothing quite like plunging into a completely different environment than you’re used to. Follow your wanderlust on adventures full of new acquaintances, sights, foods, and experiences. And after you’re done wandering, you’re going to need a place to crash. Fortunately for you, there are awesome outdoorsy, nature-centered, (relatively) inexpensive hotels all over the world. Some particularly interesting ones are…
This hotel is 35 miles northwest of Manaus, Brazil, nestled in seclusion where the Rio Negro and the Ariaú Creek cross. It sits on 70-foot high stilts, putting guests at the same level of the rainforest treetops. Rooms are all-inclusive, and standard ones run for about $540. You can even stay in a canopy level private tree house! The tree house sits on stilts, which would be perfect for hanging your hammock.
This amazing “hotel”, located in the pine forests of Harads, consists of rooms that are suspended 18 feet up in the pine trees. Each room is unique, such as the Bird’s Nest:
and the Mirrorcube:
The prices of the rooms are a little insane (around $4000 for two people), but this hotel is just so cool I had to include it on the list.
Hotel Hintertuxerhof in Hintertux, Austria
An Alpine valley at the bottom of the Hintertux Glacier is the location of this 5000 feet above sea level hotel. The grounds consist of forest paths, gorges, and 9800-foot peaks, perfect for hikers, mountain bikers, and skiers/snowboarders. Rooms run from $105
Mfuwe Lodge in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Mfuwe Lodge consists of 18 thatch-roofed cabins on the banks of two lagoons. Each cabin has a private veranda where you can watch the hippopotamuses, giraffe, antelope, and crocodiles that call the lagoons their home. Rooms run from $290. The lodge has an airy interior, and in November, local elephants are known to wander right through the lobby!
The next time your wanderlust leads you to any of these locations, consider one of these hotels. Not only do you get to stay in amazingly awesome rooms, you get as close to sleeping outside as you would sleeping in a hammock or tent! And what’s better than being out in nature?Tweet
