For the second consecutive year, Eagles Nest Outfitters and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy build their relationship and raise funds for trail preservation.

Asheville, NC - After more than 10 years living as neighbors to the Appalachian Trail, Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO), the leading producer of camping and travel hammocks based in Asheville, NC, announce a continued partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) in hopes to extend their support of the 2,180 hiking route.

The company first partnered with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in 2012 with a limited edition combo product comprised of their most popular hammock, the DoubleNest, and the SlapStrapPro, designed with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s colors and a one-of-a-kind logo. All net proceeds from every combo sale – which retails for $99.95 – is donated towards supporting the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s efforts to preserve and manage the Trail.

“The Appalachian Trail Conservancy enjoys and works to partner with companies, such as ENO, who understand the importance and value in supporting the ATC’s efforts,” said Amy McCormick, Assistant Director of Development for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. “ENO have become one of our most generous supporters.”

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy , based in Harpers Ferry, WV, is the only organization exclusively devoted to protecting and managing the world’s most famous long-distance hiking trail. Through their work, they engage in trail management and support, conservation, youth and education and community engagement with hopes to ensure the trail’s vast natural beauty and cultural heritage so it can be enjoyed today and in the future.

ENO’s General Manager, Lane Nakaji, who Thru hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2001, thinks the relationship with the non-profit is a great way for the company to give back to the environment for which outdoor recreation, such as hammocking, depends on.

“We love what the Appalachian Trail Conservancy stands for and protects,” he said. “The trail is huge and so is the potential for recreation on and around it. We are proud to help support an organization whose primary focus is to keep it healthy and accessible. We’re also an outdoors company run by outdoors people for outdoors customers, so we align well in that sense too.”

ENO’s first batch of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Combo hammocks/straps proved an immediate hit, netting over $12,000 for the conservancy in just 3 quarters. Nakaji hopes to match that number and exceed it for 2013.

Although this year’s combo is the same style as its predecessor, the current option includes the Atlas Suspension System – the newest and most popular hammock strap. It is available on enonation.com, or the atctrailstore.org.

“With this mutually beneficial partnership the Appalachian Trail Conservancy hopes to educate, excite and raise awareness among ENO’s fans and customers about the splendor of the Appalachian Trail and the importance of supporting and taking care of this iconic Trail for future generations,” McCormick said.

Detouring from the traditional outdoors setting, ENO opens the front door to indoor hammocking with their first non-tree hanging kit.

Asheville, NC – Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO), the leading producer of parachute hammocks and adventure travel accessories for nomadic comfort, is bringing backyard and backcountry relaxation in from the cold with their Hammock Hanging Kit.

No longer dependent on trees or cooperating weather, the Hammock Hanging Kit is the first product from the company that allows users to safely experience hammock nirvana inside their homes, providing a quick and sturdy anchor for any room, porch, patio or garage.

“As our outdoor line expands, we were seeing more of a need to bring hammocking indoors,” said ENO Co-Owner and President Peter Pinholster. “We didn’t want our customers feeling they were weather-dependent when planning their next hang.”

The kit, that includes zinc-plated steel anchor bolt hangers, lag screws, washers and nylon cord, attaches to any secure structure and requires little DIY experience. Not only is it the first of its kind in ENO’s line, but it also satisfies a hole for indoor hammocking products across the outdoor market.

“We have received dozens of pictures from customers suspending their hammocks indoors on bed posts, door frames, stairwells with no official hardware,” said Brendan Garvey, head designer at ENO. “The Hammock Hanging Kit is our answer to provide a safe and secure hanging platform, allowing users to let their creativity flow even when they’re in from the outdoors.”

An alternative to ENO’s removable, tree-friendly hammock suspension options – the SlapStrap, SlapStrap Pro and Atlas – the newest member to their suspension family is a more permanent option, requiring a drill and wrench for set up and is not intended for use on trees. Instead, Weighing only 6 oz and measuring just a few inches, the anchor bolt/screw/cord combination is a non-invasive addition to any wall or post that opens the doors to non-traditional hammocking.

It comes with a detailed installation guide, accommodates up to 400lbs of weigh and is compatible with any ENO Hammock and most camping hammocks.

New cold weather focused tarp and underquilt seal out the freeze and heat up your hammock, rounding out ENO’s versatile line.

Asheville, N.C., Jan. 15, 2013 – Refusing to bow down to cooler temperatures, Eagles Nest Outfitters, the leading producer of parachute hammocks, say bring on the chill with the HouseFly™ and Vulcan™ Underquilt.

The new additions to the company’s 2013 roster complete an already versatile line and are inspired by the concept of four-season hammocking.

“We’ve been working on cold weather gear for a while,” said ENO Designer Brendan Garvey. “It really rounds out the line.”

The HouseFly™, part rain tarp, part luxurious, water-proof fortress, features silicone impregnated nylon – a lightweight, strong and highly waterproof material to increase longevity. To bolster the shelter further, overlapping, stowable doors complete with agile buckles on either end of the tarp allow for two door conversions: pinned open (similar to the ENO ProFly) or secured shut.

Boasting the most coverage of all the ENO tarps, the HouseFly is the company’s first Tarp to feature such a dexterous opening system making it able to withstand hard, sideways driving wind, rain and snow – something the majority of tarps cannot compete with.

“We’re really trying to look out for the consumer here and fill that gap in the market place,” said Pete Pinholster, co-owner and president of ENO. “Most hammock tarps are open ended, but this one is a whole lot different.”

The Vulcan™ Underquilt also handles extreme conditions with ease thanks to its PrimaLoft® Synergy Continuous Filament Insulation core, a material infamous for superior warmth, softness and loft.

Complementary to the Blaze™ Underquilt, a differentially cut construction adapts to the natural contours of the body, keeping drafts and moisture out, and comfort levels up. The full length quilt, complete with adjustable shock cord suspension, is thermally efficient, protecting you from your toes to your chin while its DWR finish creates a moisture resistant barrier that works well even when wet.

Packing down to a travel-friendly size in its included Nylon Stuff Sack, the Vulcan also boasts incredible compressibility for expeditions when minimum packing is a must. Our warmest synthetic Underquilt, it provides comfortable warmth in temperatures down to 30⁰F.

“This is just the beginning of temperature specific quilts,” said Pinholster. “We’re heading in that direction and designing more and more choices.”

Both items will be available Summer ’13.

Re-using and re-purposing, the environmentally conscious story behind ENO’s hammock strap transformation and their first pet product.

Asheville, NC – Dec.15, 2012 – Tailor-made, non-stretch polyfilament webbing makes for versatile hammock suspension systems, and strong, stylish canine collars and leashes. Welcome to the first pet product by Eagles Nest Outfitters, Inc., the original parachute hammock creator.

A true repurposing story, ENO’s dog collar and leash are crafted using excess materials from their Atlas Suspension Strap manufacturing. The upcycled webbing, retaining the Atlas’ signature orange thread, is durable and flexible, ideal for dogs who lounge in the yard or tear through the country.

ENO considered multiple uses for the excess Atlas webbing – including human belts and a substitute strap for other products – before deciding upon their first pet product.

“We have a 100% webbing consumption with our other straps and so in the development of the Atlas Strap we ran into a problem we don’t normally have,” said ENO Designer Brendan Garvey. “Because of the webbing’s unique performance characteristics it just seemed natural to make a dog collar and leash.”

By producing the collars and leashes, ENO has a use for the 5-7% loss of webbing for every Atlas made, reducing their carbon footprint while making environmentally considerate dog products.

The leash features a dexterous swivel hook and a side-release buckle that allows for three handle conversions: hand-held, waist-worn or fixed-leash (to a tree/post.) The collar, available in two sizes, showcases an easily adjustable tri-glide buckle for a personalized fit on most dogs. It also features a high-strength, side-release buckle – the same one found on their hammocks – for easy take on and off, and a plastic tag clip minimizing clutter for easier clipping.

Although ENO’s collar and leash is their debut in the pet genre, it is not their first product made from repurposed materials; their Earth Bags, Strap Bags and ParaPillows are all created using excess materials from their hammock manufacturing.

“It’s always nice to reuse and repurpose materials that ordinarily would be discarded,” said ENO General Manager Lane Nakaji. “And we love dogs.”

The leash and collar starts shipping Summer 2013.

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Nov. 30,2012 – The creative minds from Eagles Nest Outfitters, industry leading hammock designers, launch the newest piece of festival entertainment – the Lotus Lounge.

The Lotus Lounge, modeled after the iconic Lotus flower, is a breathtaking, silver, circular sculpture aimed at the festival scene. ENO has been present on the festival circuit for over ten years, but the Lounge is their debut into the entertainment market.

“It’s a mobile concept offering something for people at different functions to be involved with the lifestyle and not just buying a hammock,” said Pete Pinholster, co-owner and president of ENO and the brains behind the cutting-edge structure.

Focused on being an area of relaxation, the curved design mimics the shape of a hammock, and the framework is able to hang a combination of ENO Hammocks and Loungers, with the possibility to add a large tent, a 5000 watt sound system and a professional lighting. The center of the Lounge is outfitted with a unique and innovative DJ booth.

Aside from the hammock-hanging-stations in the Lounge, the package includes up to 25 three-way hammock stands named Enopods, patent pending. The Enopod is a mobile frame allowing three hammocks to be hung on most surfaces and at any location, from backstage to waterside. Combined, the two entities create a unique relaxation space amidst a high energy environment.

“Our fans have been faithful for years and it’s our way for us to give back,” said Pinholster. “We’re always trying to give just a little bit extra.”

An fresh initiative creating relaxed masses on college campuses.

Asheville, N.C., Nov 16, 2012 – Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO), the leading creator of nomadic outdoor and travel gear, announces the 2013 launch of the Hangout Project, a one-of-a-kind, grassroots marketing initiative providing schools the opportunity to build customized, sponsored hammock lounges on their campuses.

The Hangout Project completed a successful beta development test with Pennsylvania State’s Digital Design and Fabrication Department in 2012, signaling the beginning of a movement aimed towards improving student life through the common thread of hammocking. Penn State developed one-off mobile hammock installations that could be expanded for a variety of campus needs. The feedback exceeded expectations.

“It was awesome because it not only gave the students an end product, but it allowed the students to get some real world experience about what it would be like to work with a large company on actual, physical projects,” said Adam Cohen, director of vendor relations at ENO and the brains behind the initiative.

Cohen, an Appalachian State University graduate, first experienced ENO hammocks while on his school’s quad in 20__. He immediately saw the benefits of group hammock hangs, sparking the cultivation of a program he believes is beneficial for both student morale and their health and wellness.

“It was not long before there were two, three, four hammocks popping up and soon I found myself a part of the relaxed masses,” said Cohen. “I met people through hammocking I realized I had a lot in common with. I also felt more focused and relaxed after a hammocking session.”

The project is predominately aimed towards working with schools and students to develop original, free-standing hammock ‘hangout stations’ acting as a communal gathering spaces, but it also poses an alternative to schools who have prohibited the use of hammocks to protect their campus trees.

“I’ve learned so far in this process that next to staff and students, old growth trees are valued the most,” said Cohen. “Campuses can ban the use of our current tree friendly straps to hang the hammocks, but it’s tough to swallow when they don’t allow an alternative. Well, here is the alternative.”

Although the Hangout Project is still in its infancy, Cohen’s goal is to work with many campus departments – from art, to engineering, to environmental sciences – to produce ‘hangout stations’ working towards improving the campus as a whole while spreading ENOs name.

“Our brand is a lifestyle”, says Cohen. “There are tons of health benefits related to stress reduction and what better way to reduce stress than relaxing in a hammock. Being a student under today’s stress is not easy, and they constantly email in looking for support for an on campus outlet. We see this as a win-win.”

ENO is looking for partnering schools that value their student life, relish the brand’s creativity, and are willing to assist in the development of multifunctional, aesthetically pleasing hangout stations ENO will donate.

“The beauty of this program is that it has no limit in terms of growth,” said Cohen. “It’s all about being flexible and responding to the needs of modern students. I feel confident that in a short period of time, we could see lounges popping up on campuses all over the country.”

Industry Rocking Modifications

Asheville, N.C., Oct. 15, 2012 – ENO, the leading producer of parachute hammocks, unveils modifications to the 2013 DoubleNest, SingleNest and DoubleDeluxe Hammocks, calling attention to detail that make the already easy to use outdoor accessories even more accommodating.

Aluminum wiregate carabiners, updated buckles and new cord locks highlight the 2013 face lift for the hammocks. These minor trim updates may seem small, but together make for big, innovative differences.

Doing away with the older, heavier, steel carabiners used on the pioneering models, ENO introduces superior aluminum wiregate biners. The sleek, new design – complete with the ENO logo – not only pleases the eye, but also shaves off major weight; they are only one-quarter of the weight of their predecessor. In addition, the wiregate opening is free of sharp edges, reducing the chances of material damage.

“We wanted to update the biners to make the hammocks lighter and deliver the highest quality product possible,” said Brendan Garvey, head designer at ENO. “We developed this biner specifically for us and our customers.”

The updated hammocks also feature a redesigned buckle and cord lock, both parts of the opening mechanism. The new buckle, made from acetol, is stronger and sturdier, lessoning the frustrating possibility of an accidental release. The cord lock redesign features no moving parts to break or rust, increasing the durability and usability simultaneously. The smooth aesthetics also make for more attractive merchandising options.

“We are constantly striving to improve on even our most well-known products,” said Peter Pinholster, co-owner and president of ENO.

In addition to the practical advantages the 2013 trim updates make, they also contribute to the hammocks new weight – both the Single, Double and DoubleDeluxe hammocks are at least two ounces lighter than former models, weighing in at 17 ounces, 21 ounces and 28 ounces respectively.
